DO Good SWIMWEAR
The first thing we noticed about this company was the retro and structured-to-surf designs. High waist bottoms that are still cheeky, color combos reminiscent of the 70’s, and prints that give you that fun, vintage vibe, it’s no wonder it’s first on our list! This is a true surf bikini!
The company states:
THE DO GOOD STANDARD:
Our suits are made with ECONYL® (regenerated yarn from nylon waste otherwise polluting the Earth, like fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastics rescued from all over the world) and Repreve (made from recycled plastic bottles).
All packaging is compostable or biodegradable!
A portion of profits from each order goes towards nonprofits that support ocean conservation efforts, coral reef conservaton, tree planting, and women and families in need. (For more details, check out our blog to learn more about the positive impact you make with each purchase!)
We are a small, surfer women-owned biz based in California and Hawai'i and hope to empower you to do good, feel good, and look good, too!
SALTY MERMAID
This company really knows how to sass! Fun, comfortable styles with a little cheek are what you’ll find here. Think- sexy, sassy, modern….
The company states on their website…
“The Entire Team at Salty Mermaid works diligently on every component of the bathing suit you will be wearing from the strong elastic to hold up your seashells to the care label (You have to read the care label) They searched high and low to find the most soft yet strong luxe fabrics… They have mastered the perfect cut for every body shape and have selected a handful of sought after designers and seamstresses to create the perfect suit. From the day Salty Mermaid went live to the world our goal was always the same: create a swim line that empowers the beauty of the woman within and the world throughout. Enjoy your swimsuit and remember, a lot of love and laughter went into it.. Wear it proudly and know we are one of your biggest supporters!”
SLIP IN’s Surf Skins
You’ve seen it here before! We love our Slip In’s Surf Skins, not just for getting in and out of wetsuits, but for surfing, diving, and being in the sun in general! Even better, they now have loungewear that is, and I meant this, THE MOST COMFORTABLE thing we’ve ever put on. We’ve been wearing this stuff for years, and we’ll continue to.
The website shares a quick story about the inception of the company…
“I'll never forget the afternoon Robin came to me and said, I think we can create a product that will make it much easier for women to get in and out of these unflattering, unfriendly wetsuits." Rick knew she was on to something big.
Robin called Rick two weeks later. She said she had “just the thing that was going to make women's surfing so much better!” She had pulled out an old full body lycra catsuit from the Jane Fonda workout days, put it on before getting in to her wetsuit and VOILA. The concept of SlipIns DiveSkin/SurfSkin was born.
SWOON SWIMWEAR
Ahhh… One of our favorites. We love these USA-made bikinis, and we feel the love that goes into each one! No complaints at all about the cuts, the prints, the colors, the fabric, the quality… it’s all fantastic and that’s what we’re looking for.
For you surfer girls- We’ve found that select styles are great for surfing! Others are best (and very freakin’ hot) on the beach.
Straight from the website:
“Swoon makes ethically-sourced, superior quality swimwear that will last. We keep jobs in America, and we sell directly to consumers at an honest, affordable price. Swoon Swimwear is my American Dream realized, and I am proud to know that everyone who wears a Swoon Swimsuit can feel as great about it as I do.
Swoon Swimwear is a woman owned, woman designed, and USA made ethical and sustainable swimsuit line. A Swoon swimsuit is made to order just for you! This cuts down on waste, surplus, and deadstock. The marriage of sustainability, style, and ethics is a beautiful thing, and Swoon is all three. When you are wearing a Swoon swimsuit on the beach, at the pool, or the lake you can not only feel beautiful; but feel good!”
TOMMY BAHAMA
You didn’t know they made swimwear?? Is that what I heard you think? Well, they do, and it’s beautiful.
The company pretty much has their toes in everything these days.- Fine clothing, restaurants, bars, retail stores… We loved their clothing, but this was our first experience with the swimwear. All in all, pretty good. The suit we tried was a classic style- a triangle top with a low-cut, tie-side bottom, the way they’ve always been. No frills. Classic and classy.
A little about the company:
“For 30 years, we've created an oasis where the sun always shines, the seas are always welcoming, and easy-breezy styles are always in season. Tommy Bahama is not just an escapist fantasy-it's a state of mind. Our happy place. Welcome to your paradise.”
SALT LIFE
A company whose sole focus is a life centered around what we know as the “Florida lifestyle”, Salt Life now has a plethora of different products ranging from menswear to bikinis, hats, sunglasses and more. We’ve been testing their fishing gear and swimwear for a while now, and we’re happy to say it has held up the the test! The fishing wear has held up well under months of fishing on Captain Hal, I enjoy my very cute and high quality short and tops for the beach and fishing, and the swimwear holds up nicely in the surf with a firm fit that stay put. I imagine I’ll get great use from these suits, not only in the surf, but also diving, snorkeling, and in all of my active adventures!
The company website says:
“Our brand originated as a DECAL and we have sold over 2 million of these to our loyal customers. Today, Salt Life is more than just a logo; it represents a passion for the ocean, the salt air, and most importantly, a way of life. Founded by four watermen from Jacksonville Beach, FL, Salt Life has captured the attention of many ocean enthusiasts across the world and became one of today’s leading lifestyle brands.
Salt Life’s team of avid watermen has helped put Salt Life’s apparel to the test, and it is designed to withstand the harsh environment that comes with the territory of saltwater sports. The journey to develop a quality brand that effortlessly combines function and fashion wasn’t easy, but for those who live the Salt Life, it was important. Our apparel takes you from the boat to the beach and is constantly evolving to fit your needs.”
